Low price, high purity 2D nickel phosphorus trisulfide powder and crystal

For the development of next-generation electronics, optoelectronics, and nanotechnology

| | | | |

Nickel phosphorus trisulfide (NiPS3) is a layered quasi-two dimensional antiferromagnetic (AFM) semiconductor (TN=155 K). Nickel phosphorus trisulfide (NiPS3) belongs to the group of 2D layered transition metal phosphorus trichalcogenides (MPX3). Among them, NiPS3 has quite unique physical properties with capability of both p-type and n-type doping for device applications and the smallest bandgap energy (~1.6 eV).

Applications

Development of next-generation electronics, optoelectronics, and nanotechnology

The antiferromagnetic ordering in NiPS3 is persistent down to two-layer nano-structures and is substantially suppressed in the monolayer, unlike the case of Ising-type antiferromagnet FePS3 in which antiferromagnetic ordering maintains down to the monolayer limit. Antiferromagnetic van der Waals material NiPS3 offers a good model system for the XY Hamiltonian or XXZ-type, while of anistropic Ising-type and MnPS3 of isotropic Heisenberg-type.

Bulk single nickel phosphorus trisulfide crystal is most commonly used as sources from which single or few-layer sheets can be obtained via either mechanical or liquid exfoliation. Single nickel phosphorus trisulfide crystal or films produced from such crystals are suitable for study using atomic force microscopy or transmission electron microscopy.

Few-layer NiPS3 nanosheets and nanoparticles can also obtained from nickel phosphorus trisulfide powder by liquid-exfoliation.

Structure of Nickel Phosphorus Trisulfide

NiPS3 crystalises in monoclinic crystal structure containing two molecular formula units per unit cell (Ni2P2S6). NiPS3 consists of layers of covalently bonded clusters of [P2Se6]4-dumbbell bipyramids with honeycomb arrangement of divalent nickel ions. Individual layers are bound via weak van der Waals and can be easily separated into few-layer nanosheets by either mechanical or liquid exfoliation.

Viscoelastic Transfer of 2D Material Using PDMS

Viscoelastic transfer using polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) stamps is one of the methods used for the deterministic placement of 2D materials and the fabrication of van der Waals heterostructures. It relies on the viscoelasticity of PDMS, which behaves as an elastic solid on short time scales, but as a viscous fluid on long time scales.
